Oh yes, Autumn is here! And looks like we might actually have more than a week or two this time around.
Things have been quiet on the running front. Most of this last month was spent making final preparation for a conference that I co-chaired. I was in Ft. Lauderdale for about 8 days and got back last week and while I did get some beach running in, all the time spent on my feet did not make for great runs. Regardless I loved doing it and the runs I did get in were along A1A and good or bad, you simply cannot beat that view in my book!! Yes, it was not the cool Fall weather we all love to run in, but the sound of the ocean waves crashing, sea gulls squawking and the amazing views of the sun rising cannot be beat in this ocean girls mind!
Run/walk on the beach..and wow was that tough!!![]()

I was hoping to catch up with Amanda from Run to Finish while I was there, but we were simply not able to get out our schedules to align, the busy people we are :) Next time for sure!! Sadly I had to leave all that blue azure heaven and ocean sounds behind and head back in Kansas! I hope to get back there sooner than later :) Until then…..
And now onto to my running related items. I’ve got a few races planned. A 7mi trail race this weekend on a trail that is brand new to me, which includes a stream crossing…exciting and nervous! Then a possible 10k at the Pilgrim Pacer race in the KC area and onto the Gobbler Grind Half Marathon on 11/21, race in my backyard so to speak. I’ll likely sprinkle a few trail races when they come by :) Most of them are $8, so its not a killer in the pocket book.
I’ve been very flexible and relaxed with my running over the summer and most of them have been on technical trails. Time to get my butt in gear for GG 2010! I plan on incorporating trails and paved trails in working up the race and being diligent about my yoga and stretching to avoid injury.
I’m also very seriously contemplating of what race I would like to do for my FIRST marathon endeavor! I’d like to keep it close to home for cost reasons and looking at the Spring 2011 time frame, which gives me plenty to pick from! And I’ve not fully settled on whether the first would be paved or trail!!!! Choice, choices!!!
Can’t leave without a huge shout out the Fair Weather Runner who ran amazing Chicago Marathon. So proud of you!!! And also shout outs to the amazing Lea, Rachel, and Liz who also ran a killer race in pretty hot conditions! And not forgetting Kristen, Hannah and Lacy who raced the inaugural Wichita Prairie Fire Marathon and Half. Congrats ladies, you all rock!!
Good Luck to Jesse on his BQ attempt this Saturday at the Kansas City Marathon!!
Happy Running no matter where it may be!!
the trail race this weekend sounds like fun. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a water guy, but I could get used to views like that on the beach. Glad the conference went well.
ReplyDeleteIf I wasn't doing the marathon this weekend, I'd be at the trail race. I miss running through the woods. Thanks for the shout-out!
Those views are lovely! Have a fantastic weekend!
